T shirts are printed with a design in 1 colour
Often T shirts are printed with a design in 1 colour (e.g. Black ink on Red Sweat Shirts.) But they can, of course, be printed in more-or-less as many colours as you would like.
But as it is quite tricky to set up the equipment, it is quite expensive in small quantities.
Multi-colour designs fall roughly into two groups:-
4 Colour process printing.
In this case the artwork. Perhaps something like a colour photograph is "separated" by computer into 4 different pieces of Artwork. Each piece of artwork is made up of varying amounts and densities of dots. When these are printed they create the impression of being made up of a large number of colours. If you look closely at a big poster by the road you will see it is made up of a lot of dots but from a distance looks like a photograph. Or if you use a magnifying glass to look at a colour photograph in a magazine you will see the same sort of thing.
For T Shirts we need the same but because T Shirt material is not as smooth as paper we need bigger dots. For printing on white shirts 4 colour process printing is used directly onto the T Shirts. BUT for coloured (say Black) T shirts we must print a white base first. Therefore in fact 5 colours are printed.
1 or more spot colour printing
In this case separate pieces of artwork are created for each of the colours in the design. i.e. If you want a black and red design printed onto yellow T shirts we must make 1 piece of artwork for red, another for black.
For multi-colour designs add the following to the price per garment printed in 1 colour.
